NEW DELHI: Pollution watchdog CPCB has issued a show-cause realize to Delhi govt's Irrigation and Flood Control Department, asking why it should now not be prosecuted for now not containing open burning of waste at Shahdara drain.

"Three incidents of waste burning were cited during November 4-5. Local residents have also reported several cases of waste burning along the drain which has caused air pollution," Parihar mentioned in the realize dated December 3.

He mentioned the inspections were performed during clean air marketing campaign from November 1-10 via groups comprising officers from environment ministry, CPCB, Delhi Pollution Control Committee and the local civic frame.

In two separate notices issued on November 29, the watchdog requested for an explanation as to why action should now not be initiated for prosecution of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) and East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) commissioners for "failing to effectively control air polluting incidence" beneath their jurisdiction.

The Supreme Court had last week requested the CPCB to prosecute govt officers for now not acting on around 250 court cases gained via it from electorate.


"Why don't you prosecute these officers? You should prosecute them.


"Let these folks realise what they have achieved,” the top court docket had told the CPCB.


Supreme Court-appointed Environment Pollution Control Authority Chairperson Bhure Lal had also lashed out at enforcement businesses, alleging that Delhi's civic and concrete bodies are "not properly implementing" the instructions issued to curb pollution.


Delhi has been battling alarming levels of pollution for over a month with the air quality oscillating between 'deficient' and 'serious' categories, which has precipitated government to undertake a slew of measures.
