CPM branch secy killed in Kollam

Kollam: A neighborhood CPM chief used to be bludgeoned to death allegedly through his neighbour near Eruthanangad in Ezhukone police station limits on Saturday.
Identifying the deceased as B Devadathan alias Babu (56), a resident of Kaithakode, police said a hunt used to be on for Sunil Kumar alias Maranad Sunil, who had gone missing after the incident. Devadathan used to be CPM’s Eruthanangad department secretary.

Police said the incident occurred around 1.30pm at Kuthirathadam Vallakkadavu near Eruthanangad. Devadathan used to be distributing electorate’ slips in connection with the election to the cooperative financial institution at Pavithreswaram at the side of a party colleague when he used to be attacked.

It used to be alleged that Sunil hit Devadathan on his head with a log. Though the man used to be taken to Kollam Medicity, his lifestyles may no longer be stored. The body used to be later shifted to the morgue at Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital, from the place it could be taken to the Medical College Hospital at Thiruvananthapuram for autopsy examination on Sunday.

A police crew led through superintendent of police (rural) B Ashok and Kottarakkara DSP has been deployed at the house.


Sunil allegedly nursed a grudge in opposition to Devadathan after the latter had refused to drop a case in opposition to a person, who reportedly attacked him 4 years ago. Local CPM men, however, said the deceased were lively in opposition to illicit liquor brewers in Eruthanagadu, and it might have ended in his homicide.


Devadathan is survived through spouse Kumari, and kids Athulya and Achudev.


A police party probing the case met with an coincidence when their automobile nosedived into Chittumala Chira at Kadapuzha. No one used to be injured.
