CHENNAI: A fisherman from Besant Nagar has been jailed for attacking a stray dog and damaging an eye fixed, regardless that he claimed it tried to bite him.
Police suspect Alexander, 46, of Odaikuppam would possibly have been inebriated when he threw stones on the dog, injuring its left eye. Neighbours alerted Blue Cross of India and its officials rescued the dog and bandaged its eye.
Shastri Nagar police said the incident used to be reported at round 11am on Wednesday after which they arrested the fisherman and registered a case against him beneath IPC Section 429 (mischief via killing or maiming livestock) and beneath the Prevention of Animal Cruelty Act. He used to be remanded in judicial custody on Thursday.
The dog is alleged to be improving smartly after surgery, regardless that it misplaced its left eye.
The incident comes a day after a 41-year-old man used to be arrested for hurting a pet at Selaivoyal near Manali.
