'Over 6k officers of PSBs held responsible for bad loans'

NEW DELHI: The govt on Friday stated motion has been taken towards greater than 6,000 officials of nationalised banks closing fiscal in cases of lapses that ended in unhealthy loans.

In written answer, finance minister Arun Jaitley stated that minor and major consequences were imposed towards erring officials. These come with, dismissal, compulsory retirement and demotion.

"As per the inputs received from nationalised banks, in FY 2017-18, 6,049 officers have been held responsible on account of staff delinquency in NPA accounts...," Jaitley stated.

Depending upon the gravity of lapses, the minister stated "minor penalty/ major penalty have been imposed against erring officials" and in the entire cases, depending upon the quantity involved, CBI and police court cases were lodged.

The 19 nationalised banks, together with PNB and Canara Bank, reported a net lack of Rs 21,388 crore in the first part of the fiscal. This compares with a blended loss Rs 6,861 crore in the equivalent duration of 2017-18.

Meanwhile, minister of state for finance Shiv Pratap Shukla stated that no loan account of state-owned banks with remarkable of over Rs 25 crore has been "declared as evergreen" since June 2014.
