Sewage spills on to roads in Sector 14

GURUGRAM: With overflowing sewage inundating many parts of Sector 14, residents have approached the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) to mend the civic drawback as soon as and for all.
Though they have been dealing with this drawback for over a 12 months now, residents say it has annoyed over the past few days and foul smell of sewage water has made life difficult for them.

Sector 14 has 8 zones. In six zones, sewage water overflowing from manholes has led to waterlogging. "Zones 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 are the worst affected. Even the main market has been inundated with overflowing sewage. We are also forced to bear the stench," said HS Nanda, RWA president of Sector 14. "We had apprised the MCG and CM window of our plight but nothing happened. The problem is assuming bigger proportions with each passing day. GMDA is our last hope," he said.

Dinesh Aggarwal, every other resident, said, "For over a year, we have trying to manage the issue. But now it's unbearable."

Some residents also blamed the store house owners of the Sector 14 marketplace for the mess. "The shop owners were supposed to have their own sewage treatment plant constructed. But their sewage too ends up in drains," said Arvind, a resident.

Residents imagine that choking has happened somewhere throughout the sewage strains of Sector 14. "These lines end up joining the master line near Gurugram - Mehrauli road," said every other resident. Residents said five months in the past, MCG had issued a young price Rs 36 lakh for cleansing the town's drainage system. "But it turns out that cleaning was not carried out properly," said Nanda. "It is very clear that public money has been wasted."

However, when contacted, a senior GMDA professional told TOI, "I haven't received the letter. I will have to check first why the problem hasn't been addressed by MCG."
