Two acquitted in Adani kidnapping case

AHMEDABAD: A sessions courtroom at the Mirzapur rural courtroom campus on Friday acquitted two men who have been arrested and attempted for kidnapping industrialist Gautam Adani for ransom twenty years in the past.

During the trial, when evidence in opposition to the Fazl-ur-Rehman and his associate Bhogilal Darji used to be being recorded, Adani didn't seem prior to the courtroom to depose and insisted that his previous statement, made all over the trial in opposition to other accused person, needs to be considered. After this, the prosecution dropped Adani’s identify from the listing of witnesses.


After the trial, the courtroom didn't in finding good enough evidence in opposition to Rehaman and Darji, and acquitted either one of them. The courtroom had previous acquitted half a dozen other accused individuals in this case.


The alleged kidnapping had taken position on the night time of January 1, 1998, when Adani and Shantilal Patel have been driving from Karnavati Club to Mohammedpura village. The automobile used to be intercepted and either one of them have been kidnapped at gunpoint. They have been blindfolded, put in some other automobile and have been taken to an unknown position where they have been confined in a room. The kidnappers then demanded a ransom.


Then police sub-inspector R K Patel turned into a complainant in this case. In June 1999, one Mohammed Javed Ansari used to be arrested in this case. Nine individuals, including Bhogilal Darji and Jayesh Darji, have been indexed as absconders. One decade later, police were given custody of Rehman and filed a chargesheet in opposition to him.
