THANE: A 42-year-old woman misplaced over Rs 19 lakh to a web-based cheat who conned her through claiming he had sent her a gift from the USA and asked her to pay customs responsibility and take the present.
A police officer stated a few months again, the sufferer and the conman connected on a social networking website. He coaxed her to partner with him in a wine and juice trade. After a few days, he stated he wanted to send her gifts.
Soon after, an individual, who claimed to be a customs professional, referred to as up the girl and stated her present had arrived at Delhi airport. She was once asked to cough up Rs 68,000 as customs responsibility. When she refused to just accept the courier, she was once threatened with arrest.
On making the cost, she was once told customs officials had found one kg gold and he or she would have to pay more cash. She in spite of everything ended up paying Rs 19.15 lakh, stated the police officer.
When the present didn't arrive, she realized she had been cheated and lodged a grievance.
