CHANDIGARH: Kicking-off the second phase of its supplier resettlement initiative, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) performed a draw of quite a bit on Saturday.
A total of 553 registered side road distributors were given spaces to run their businesses in various spaces of the city. In the current phase, besides different spaces, distributors from Sectors 17, 19 and 22 might be resettled.
The allottment exercise will continue till Monday.
On Saturday, the attracts were held in five vending zones in several spaces comprising Sectors 15, 33, 38, 39 and IT Park.
By the end of the attracts, as many as 553 registered side road distributors from Sectord 17, 19, 32, 38, 40, Daddumajra colony and Manimajra were resettled in the spaces adjacent their current working spots. All the distributors allotted new spaces on Saturday fall below the non-essential category.
The 2nd phase is somewhat an important because it comprises alottment to the distributors who're unwilling to transport to Sector 15. In a feat, the MC was in a position to resettle the protesting distributors of Sectors 17 and 19 to Sector 15 on Saturday. The distributors of Sector 22, who're also resisting the transferring to Sector 15, might be resettled on Sunday.
During the attracts, MC officials, members of town vending committee, enforcement division and distributors mobile were present on Saturday. Similar to the primary phase, heavy police power was deployed at the MC place of work premises.
In the primary phase of the draw of quite a bit hung on December 30, the registered side road distributors of various zones including Sectors 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, 52, 53, 56, IT Park, Dhanas, Maloya were resettled. On December 30, the MC held attracts for Sectors 19, 22, 32, 40, Manimajra, Maulijagran and Daddumajra.
The first phase of the resettlement pressure was succesfully performed despite resistance from the residents of Sector 15. Criticizing the MC’s choice to make the field Chandigarh’s largest vending zone, they had then stated that the move would most effective building up problems for the residents of the area.
