CM gets late for event after chopper develops snag

MUMBAI: Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis reached past due for a public tournament in Satara district through at least two hours after a helicopter that was intended to ferry him from Mumbai to Satara developed a snag and some other helicopter needed to be introduced in from Pune.

Fadnavis was intended to reach Satara through 10.30 am, however reached there through around 12:30 pm due to the snag in the helicopter. Fadnavis was intended to take off at 9 am for Khandala in Satara district to wait an tournament to commemorate the start anniversary of social reformer Savitribai Phule.


Officials from the state aviation directorate stated a Sikorsky helicopter from an company empaneled through the government was due to take off from the Juhu aerodrome at 7.30 am to reach Mahalaxmi racecourse from the place CM was to board it. But it could not take off from Juhu due to a technical snag. Another helicopter was organized from Pune to ferry Fadnavis.


Fadnavis apologised to the gang for being past due for the development.


"I was supposed to reach here at around 10 am but the helicopter that was to come from Pune reached late and so I was late," stated Fadnavis in his speech in Satara.


In 2017, Fadnavis had a slim break out after a Sikorsky S-76C++ helicopter met with a mishap at Nilanga in Latur. A couple of months after the accident in Latur, Fadnavis's helicopter developed a snag in May 2017 in Gadchiroli.
