Nagpur: Despite dealing with monetary disaster, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has proposed to sponsor three personal occasions following demand from corporators.
The proposals to grant finances of Rs 80 lakh to a few occasions were tabled ahead of the standing committee headed through Virendra Kukreja. The decision will be taken in a meeting arranged on Wednesday.
The NMC’s sports activities and cultural division has tabled the proposals looking for Rs 30 lakh for ‘Bhim Buddh Geet’, Rs 20 lakh for ‘Aahi Bhartache Lok’ and Rs 30 lakh for ‘Adivasi Mahotsav’. It seems that a trend of sponsoring such occasions has began in the civic body. The NMC does no longer plan such occasions; personal organizations or corporators do so and produce them to the NMC for sponsorship.
Another proposal ahead of the standing committee is to approve the draft of MoU to be completed between the NMC and MahaMetro for building of Metro Mall beneath London Street Project.
Actually, the MoU used to be completed a few days in the past and now the projects division is seeking the standing committee’s approval violating the norms and teasing the committee.
As consistent with the proposal, the NMC can pay 2.5% of the overall cost of Metro Mall to MahaMetro for execution. It may even liberate Rs11 crore to MahaMetro upfront for starting the works.
The NMC’s common administration division has tabled an offer ahead of the standing committee for appointment of personal taxi owners for hiring 70 four-wheelers for office-bearers and officers for a duration of 2 years. The proposal is shrouded with controversy for more than a few reasons.
The standing committee may even take a call on appointment of 2 personal companies for supply of six hearse trucks each, ambulances and cold coffins at a value of Rs 2.01 crore.
A proposal is to asphalt Canal Road from University Library square to Panchsheel Square at a value of Rs 44.70 lakh. The highway is in a very unhealthy situation because it has developed many potholes due to personal building activities.
Another proposal is to concretize the stretch from Krida Square to Medical Square at a value of Rs 1.12 crore. Another 66 proposals associated with civil works will come up ahead of the standing committee for approval.
