PANAJI: A picture of a Goan dentist’s chance meeting with Congress president Rahul Gandhi went viral on Monday. Within mins, it evoked reactions from across the nation.
Rachna Fernandes was dining with her circle of relatives at a popular seafood restaurant at Cavelossim on Sunday when Rahul and his mother Sonia Gandhi, entered and sat at the table adjacent to the Fernandeses.
Though she found the man “very acquainted”, she didn’t to begin with recognise Rahul. That was till she spotted his mother and concluded that their fellow-diner was indeed the Congress president. “When I saw him he smiled back at me, so after a while I requested him if I could take a picture,” she said. “He said okay, but that he’d like to pay his bill first.”
The dentist gushed about his genial nature and hailed the baby-kisser as an exquisite particular person. “He was so calm and quiet and not using a airs about him and no attitude,” she said. Then, part an hour later, after the Gandhis had completed their meal, Rahul paid the bill and told her he’s now in a position for the picture. “I assumed he would simply stroll (but he didn’t). That was very sweet of him,” she said.
