Government plans to buy vehicle to rescue jumbos

BHUBANESWAR: In an effort to protect elephants and decrease their deaths, the state govt has decided to procure a different car which is not going to only be equipped with tracking instrument however will also be able to rescue trapped and stranded elephants. Each of the car, which comes equipped with a crane as well as tranquilizing gun, value around Rs 20 lakh. The transfer is aimed to protect the jumbos amongst rising incidents of man-elephant battle. Last yr as many as 71 elephants died in the state because of various reasons.

“The car will have the entire apparatus needed for the protection and rescue of elephants. These automobiles have been successfully utilized in West Bengal and we are trying to use it in the state. In the last few months the man-elephant battle has greater manifold in the state,” chief natural world warden Sandeep Tripathy mentioned. The car will also have lighting fixtures, siren, ropes, and cutter amongst different items.


Sources mentioned because of shrinking elephant habitats, the jumbos are entering human habitations, resulting in increasing battle. Of the 71 elephants that died last yr, at least 20 have been electrocuted whilst six have been run over by means of a teach.
