NGT's ban on heavy vehicles into Delhi causes traffic jam on Jaipur-Delhi highway

GURUGRAM: The ban on access of heavy industrial visitors into Delhi by way of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) caused heavy visitors jam on Saturday at the Jaipur-Delhi freeway as police compelled drivers to take a U-Turn forward of the Kherki Daula toll barrier.

There used to be a greater than five-km lengthy visitors jam at the Jaipur to Delhi direction right here on National Highway 48 (earlier called NH8).

Traffic police had installed five barricades right here at the Mumbai-Jaipur-Delhi freeway to divert heavy industrial automobiles between Dharuhera to Kherki Daula toll plaza, nearly 45 km stretch between Gurugram and Dharuhera.

"We are trying to manage the traffic. Due to slow moving vehicles, there was long traffic jam on the main road as well as on the service lane," said a senior police officer.

"NGT ordered a ban of entry heavy commercial vehicles into the national capital for 24 hours (from 11 p.m. on January 4 to 11 p.m. on January 5), if the limit was not extended," Assistant Commissioner of Police Heera Singh advised IANS.

Singh said: "We have deployed traffic inspectors at Kapriwas, Bilaspur, Pachgaon, Manesar and Kherki Daula to manage traffic."

Singh said that drivers of the banned automobiles weren't aware of the NGT order.
