Quake jolts Japan's Kumamoto, no reports of damage

TOKYO: An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.zero hit southern Japan on Thursday but no tsunami caution was issued, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) mentioned, and there were no fast studies of damage or accidents.


The quake, which struck at 6.10pm, was centred in Kumamoto prefecture at the southern island of Kyushu, at a intensity of 10km (6 miles), JMA mentioned.


Public broadcaster NHK reported that nuclear energy amenities in the area had been working as commonplace.


Earthquakes are common in Japan, one of the vital international's most seismically energetic areas. Japan accounts for approximately 20 in step with cent of the arena's earthquakes of magnitude 6 or larger.
