'Remove ‘Muslim’ in AMU as it’s uncomfortable'

AGRA: BJP’s Aligarh MP Satish Gautam has said that the time period ‘Muslim’ in Aligarh Muslim University’s title makes many people uncomfortable and it would be best to rename the over-a-century-old varsity. “The phrase ‘Muslim’ makes a large section of the society uncomfortable. It might be appropriate to call its as Aligarh University,” Gautam said. Asked if Banaras Hindu University must even be renamed, the BJP MP said, “India is a Hindu Rashtra and there is not any level in disposing of ‘Hindu’ from the BHU.”

Gautam has been in information for his frequent tirade towards AMU. From demanding the elimination of MA Jinnah’s portrait hanging in one of the vital varsity’s many halls, to dubbing AMU a "seminary for terrorists", Gautam has been in information for launching a number of assaults on the varsity. “Being the central government's representative, it is my accountability to talk every time issues move wrong. I can never be silent on the issues that harm nationwide pursuits. I am towards the mentality that prevails and drives issues there and not the institute,” the MP said.

Gautam instructed TOI, “The college is without a doubt run with a pro-Muslim mindset and it is visual in every act of theirs. They have vacation for Eid but not for the biggest Hindu festival, like Diwali. They permit Muslim scholars to offer ‘namaz’ on the campus but there is not any temple there. If they are actually secular, they must have a temple, a gurdwara and church there too.”
