Sensex dives 363 points to end below 36,000-mark; Nifty at 10,792

NEW DELHI: Markets completed the second one buying and selling day of 2019 in purple with the benchmark BSE Sensex crashing over 350 issues amid heavy selloff in metal and auto shares. Sensex plunged 363 issues or 1 in line with cent to near at 35,892, whilst the wider NSE Nifty shed 118 issues or 1.08 in line with cent to end at 10,792.

On BSE, Vedanta, Mahindra and Mahindra, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Hero MotorCorp and Maruti had been among the best losers with their shares sliding up to four.35 in line with cent. On the NSE platform, all the sub-indices tracked losses with Nifty Metal and Auto declining probably the most, down up to three.47 in line with cent.

“There is lack of volume (in Indian shares) and we’re very just about the new highs, main to a few profit-booking,” said Siddharth Sedani, head of fairness advisory at Anand Rathi Financial Services in Mumbai.


“The profits season will give some triggers ... we should be around 11,000 levels ahead of it starts,” he added, referring to the wider Nifty.


IT services and products large Tata Consultancy Services Ltd will kick off the company profits season with results for the December-quarter scheduled for January 10.


Weakness in Asian shares and promoting by means of overseas institutional traders hit market sentiment, investors said.
