The state handloom and textiles department has carried out for the geographical indicator (GI) tag for 3 textile types from Tamil Nadu on the GI Registry and would soon practice for 3 extra, stated P Sanjai Gandhi, Geographical Indication lawyer and IPR lawyer. The materials for which GI tag applications were given are Thirubuvanam Silk sari, Kodali Karuppur Sari and Karaikudi Kandangi Sari. “We are looking forward to the legal formalities to be completed in a while,” Gandhi stated.
