Trade forum to join strike next week

GUWAHATI: The joint discussion board of business unions and workers’ federations on Thursday announced they're going to sign up for the nationwide strike on January eight and nine called by way of central business unions tough universal social safety coverage to all, strict enforcement of labour rules and an finish to their dilution and privatization and other calls for.

The state discussion board will protest in opposition to the Centre’s ‘anti-people’ policies, privatization of the state’s oil sector and airport and press the long-pending call for of climbing the day-to-day salary of tea lawn employees.


Tapan Sarma, common secretary of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) right here, addressing media, stated, “The executive appears to be making policies favouring capitalists and ignoring the operating magnificence. The executive is attempting to privatize the public sector banks, insurance, rail, defence and oil sectors and overlooking the devastating affect it may well carry. Instead of producing employment, the government has been pushing for contractual jobs. Besides, the unabated inflation of crucial commodities has made people’s lives depressing.”


The discussion board demanded to hike the minimum day-to-day salary of tea lawn employees to Rs 351. “While the government has failed to deal with this long-pending call for, it used to be seen to be engaged in multi-billion scams like that of Rafale aircraft. The executive has also been trying to remove the autonomy of organisations like the Reserve Bank of India and CBI, which is extremely condemnable. The executive has also not addressed the farmers’ plights,” stated the discussion board.


Sarma added, “The executive has failed to deal with the main factor of pending payments of employees of the two paper turbines within the state. The executive is turning a blind eye to their families. We call for rapid payment in their arrears.” The employees of the two HPCL paper turbines, at Cachar and Nagaon, and their families have not been getting salaries for the previous 24 months.
