COIMBATORE: A one-year-old male elephant calf, which was once discovered deserted in an agricultural field at Sundapatti Pirivu on the outskirts of the city, was once reunited with its herd on Saturday.
Forest officials stated the calf was once a part of a herd of elephants that raided the plantain and maize farms of Chinnaraj, of Nellithurai, on the early hours of the day. “After having enough of fodder, the herd left the rural field and entered the Mettupalayam woodland vary. But the calf was once left at the back of because it was once not able to move the elephant proof trench close to the rural field,” stated a forester, who didn’t wish to be named.
When farmworkers noticed the calf roaming within the agricultural field, they alerted the woodland department. Immediately, Mettupalayam vary officer S Selvaraj and staff reached the spot and guided the calf to the reserve woodland, the place the mother elephant, along with the herd, was once looking forward to it.
