Bihar minister calls for waste management

MUZAFFARPUR: Municipal bodies across the country are looking to lower their expenditure over managing waste of their areas. In fact, some of them have labored smartly over the problem and set examples for others to observe, state minister for city building and housing Suresh Kumar Sharma stated right here on Friday.
Sharma expressed his views at a workshop organised for the ward councillors of Muzaffarpur Municipal Corporation (MMC) right here.

The programme, organised by means of the city building and housing department and chaired by means of the minister had a discussion over segregation and management of each solid and wet wastes. Speakers, most commonly officers of municipal firms from eight states of the country shared their reports with each other.

Addressing the hole ceremony, the minister stated, “Management of waste is the will of the hour. All civic bodies from major metro cities are hankering for dumping wastes as landfill facilities are shrinking with each passing day. Hence, waste management has emerged as a significant issue for them. Some municipalities like Ambikapur, Panchgani and Muzaffaprur have set an example for others to observe. They aren't only managing their wastes in a better way, however are also incomes from those wastes after converting it into useful objects. In fact, they're producing bio- friendly merchandise from biodegradable wastes.”


Expressing happiness over Muzaffarpur civic body’s initiative of producing compost from waste, Sharma stated it has proved a boon. “The civic body is now incomes earnings from compost. Based on the success of this initiative, many other municipalities have followed it of their respective areas for rubbish management,” the minister stated.


Panchgani Hill Municipal Council mayor Laxmi Karhadkar deliberated on sustainable waste management. She stated, “Keeping our cities blank by means of only amassing and disposing wastes is not sufficient. Zero landfill is the will of the hour as land is not available for dumping rubbish. Hence, segregation at supply, right kind treatment, recycling and reuse of the waste is more vital. We have advanced good practices on this recognize with folks’s participation.
