PUNE: The Bharati Vidyapeeth police on Thursday arrested a former assistant supervisor of an automobile showroom in Ambegaon for duping a automotive dealer and stealing a passenger car value Rs5.11 lakh.

The suspect, Kapil Junawane (25) of Bibvewadi, had taken the car from the dealer's showroom at Wagholi on April 28 on the pretext of acting a puja and bought it to a person in Shirur for Rs90,000. "The fraud came to light last month following an audit at the showroom. The dealer lodged the complaint on Thursday after he came to know about Junawane's involvement in the fraud," mentioned Madhukar Salunkhe, assistant inspector, Bharati Vidyapeeth police.

Salunkhe mentioned the suspect labored as an assistant supervisor within the dealer's Ambegaon showroom between 2016 and August 2018. In April last yr, the automobile company's finance division requested the dealer to e-book a passenger car within the identify of 1 person. "After some days, the department informed the dealer to cancel the booking due to incomplete documentation," Salunkhe mentioned.


He mentioned that the dealer had been the use of the car for check rides in his showrooms.


"On April 28, the suspect made a gate pass and mentioned on it that he was driving the vehicle out of the showroom for conducting a puja. Junawane then went to the dealer's showroom in Wagholi and drove away with the vehicle," Salunkhe mentioned.


In August, Junawane left his activity. Between April and January this yr, no one was conscious that the car was lacking.
