Govt may strip six Bengal police officers of medals, seniority

NEW DELHI: The house ministry is contemplating stripping six senior officers of West Bengal Police of their meritorious awards and may take away them from the listing of seniority for collaborating in the dharna via leader minister Mamata Banerjee.

Taking a dim view of police officers collaborating in the CM-led protests and dharna in Kolkata on February 4, the ministry has identified DGP Virendra, ADG (safety) Vineet Kumar Goyal, ADG (regulation and order) Anuj Sharma, commissioner of police (Bidhannagar) Gyanwant Singh and Kolkata Police further commissioner Supratim Sarkar for action.

Similar action may be anticipated against Kolkata Police leader Rajeev Kumar, against whom disciplinary action has already been sought.


The action being contemplating against the officers come with taking flight medals or decorations conferred on them for meritorious carrier, removing of their names from the empanelled (seniority) listing and banning them for a certain period from serving in the central executive, an legitimate stated.


The ministry may be believed to have requested the West Bengal executive to take action against them for alleged violation of All India Service Rules.


The centre may be pondering of issuing an advisory to all states to make certain that officers of uniformed forces adhere to habits regulations and deal with decorum.


On Tuesday, the Centre had requested the West Bengal executive to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Rajeev Kumar for “indiscipline” and violation of services regulations.
