Mysuru: In a move that is indicative of its intent to inspire handicraft trade, and improve conventional craft and artisans, who've been engaged in these professions for generations, the state government has pledged a sum of Rs five crore against refurbishing the JSS Urban Haat in Hebbal Industrial Area in Mysuru. JSS Mahavidyapeetha, which manages the handicraft market, is making plans on utilising the price range to strengthen amenities for both artisans, and guests. The state government’s improve for JSS Urban Haat since it's the only platform of its type in Karnataka, where handicraft artisans can meet and promote their wares immediately to shoppers.
The haat’s tale started in 2007, when JSS Mahavidyapeetha took the lead in putting in a space for the sale of conventional products. Under the Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) fashion, it was once agreed that the Union ministry of textiles would account for 70% of the price of setting up JSS Urban Haat, whilst the Mahavidyapeetha would supply 15% of the price range and the state Karnataka government the rest portion. JSS Mahavidyapeetha executive secretary CG Betsurmath mentioned that the haat had hosted as many as 100 expos within the 12 years since its inauguration in 2007. “Of these, 57 have been backed occasions, whilst the rest 43 were not. The haat has succeeded in bringing greater than 6,700 artisans from around the country beneath one roof. The expos that have been hosted at JSS Urban Haat have cumulatively completed a turnover of Rs 23.9 crore. On plans to enlarge the power, Betsurmath mentioned that the plan was once to keep the haat working all 365 days of the year, with at least a 100 artisans plying their wares at any given juncture. “We need to focal point on attracting tourists, in particular all the way through weekends. We need to organise more supportive programmes, by way of undertaking exhibitions of works of famend artisans at an amphitheatre, which we are hoping to build to deal with 600 to one,000 other people. We need to construct a dormitory on the subject of the haat to house the artisans once they consult with town for the expos. As the haat has grown, the drive is now on methods to sustain the fashion.
