Thiruvananthapuram: State tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran, in a letter despatched to Union minister of state for tourism Ok J Alphons, criticized the Centre for taking ‘unilateral decisions’ with reference to projects in the state’s tourism sector.
Surendran’s primary grievance used to be at the Centre’s proposed ‘Cultural pageant of India’ in the state on February 23 and 24, which in step with Alphons is ‘to revive the flood-ravaged tourism industry of Kerala’. The cultural pageant, which is anticipated to characteristic art sorts of 10 states and participation of round 150 artists, is scheduled to be held at Thekkinkadu Maidan in Thrissur and Amal Jyothi Engineering College, Kanjirappally.
“In Kerala, the pageant season, draw in a large number of home as well as foreign tourists, commences this month. The proposed festivals on February 23 and 24 do not make vital impact in boosting the tourism industry, as such a lot of festivals are being performed in every single place the state all the way through that days,” the letter mentioned.

For this function, I request you to incorporate Kerala tourism in tourism ministry’s Incredible India marketing campaign,” Surendran mentioned in his letter.
Surendran’s letter comes shut at the heels of chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s missive to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing his displeasure with the Centre for appointing ITDC (India Tourism Development Corporation) because the implementing company of the Sivagiri challenge.
