Allahabad: With over two crore pilgrims expected to take a dip in Sangam on Basant Panchami on Sunday, Mela police beefed up security at the Kumbh-2019 venue and deployed more staff at the flooring an afternoon sooner than the third shahi snan of Kumbh-2019.
Basant Panchami, to be seen on Sunday, will be the last shahi snan of the Kumbh Mela.

On Saturday, Mela police conducted a crowd control workout for its staff on six issues of the ground—Kali Marg, Triveni Marg, Sangam nose, Sangam Lower Marg, Akshayvat marg and Mahavir Marg.

Police said that 12 deputy SPs, 24 inspectors, 500 policemen and two firms of the Border Security Force (BSF) were deployed as a part of the safety arrangements for the snan.

SSP (Kumbh) KP Singh, said, “As Basant Panchami would be the last shahi snan of the Kumbh Mela, now we have restricted the movement on pontoon bridges from one to five.”

Singh said that pontoon bridges number 6 and seven can be open for devotees as they connect Parade Ground space and Jhunsi.

He additionally said that more volunteers had been roped in on the ghats stretching across 8 kilometre for regulating the crowd.

Singh said that pontoon bridge number 9 to 16 can be open for devotees going from Jhunsi space to Parade Ground space, while devotees commuting from Parade Ground space to Arial Ghat space may just use pontoon bridge number 18 -20.

Mela district Justice of the Peace Vijay Kiran Anand, said, “The Mela management would make certain that akharas follow directions concerning the choice of automobiles allowed and the timings all over the shahi snan.”

He said the akharas had been allocated time slots when they may take a dip in Sangam at the side of the seers associated with their monastic order, all over the shahi snan.


“Over 60 lakh devotees took a dip in Sangam on Saturday and the inflow of devotees is still rising,” Anand added.


Meanwhile, Lucknow-resident Mayank Agarwal, who had come at the side of his circle of relatives to take a dip in Sangam on Basant Panchmi, said, “It could be very unexpected to peer so many other folks visiting the ghats of Sangam to seek salvation.”


Rudra, who has come all of the way from Sasaram in Bihar together with his five neighbours, said, “We wanted to take a dip in Sangam on Mauni Amavasya however may just no longer make it. After reaching Sangam these days, we really feel more enthused to take the dip on Sunday.”
