NDFB extortionists nabbed

GUWAHATI: Two persons had been arrested for allegedly running an extortion racket in Nagaon. In their extortion notice, the arrested persons had said they had been associated with the militant outfit National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) - a claim that police are investigating.

Identified as Nakul Satnami from Kampur and Deb Narayan Gowala from Doboka, the duo had threatened a neighborhood businessmen of dire penalties if he didn't pay Rs 20 lakh, police said.


"Nakul sent an extortion notice to a trader residing in Badalgaon area on February 1. If not paid, the businessman was threatened with dire consequences. However, after receiving a complaint, police swung into action," said Nagaon Police sources.


On Wednesday evening, police laid a entice and successfully nabbed Nakul. Later all the way through quizzing, Nakul knowledgeable police about his partner. Subsequently, police nabbed Deb, the second member of the group. Sources added that police have also controlled to grab the phone quantity utilized by the group.


"The duo has confessed they have been running the extortion racket for quite some time now. They said they had served a similar extortion notice to another trader from Kampur area earlier," police added.
