Ola driver assaulted, 3 detained in Mangaluru

MANGALURU: A tussle between airport taxi drivers and the ones from cab aggregator Ola has as soon as once more come to the fore with the former assaulting an Ola driving force on Wednesday.
According to police, two other folks from Hyderabad had booked an Ola cab in Mangaluru on-line, so they'd their cab ready once they landed here.

As the passengers arrived at the Ola parking centre within the Mangalore International Airport premises, Ratan, an Ola driving force, guided them against their automobile.

On seeing this, police said the airport taxi drivers were given furious and a gaggle of around 15 of them assaulted Ratan,30, a resident of Car Street.

A case has been registered at the Bajpe police station. Police said they've detained three other folks in this connection.

Three other folks had been arrested in connection with the case. They are Mohammed Tahseen, 50, Abdul Rahiman, 41, and Usman alias Abbas,38, all residents of Mangaluru.

Man held for illegal possession of firearm

The Dakshina Kannada district police on Tuesday detained an individual on fees of sporting a country-made gun with out required paperwork and licence.

The accused is Baiju Bin Challappan, 45, hailing from Ernakulam in Kerala.

Based on a tip-off that Baiju used to be in possession of the gun at Kaniyoor under Bellare police station limits, the police detained him and seized the gun. He has been booked under the Arms Act.

The Mangaluru City police on Wednesday seized four tipper vehicles that have been sporting sand illegally to Kerala.


When the police from Kankanady City station have been engaging in a routine check near Padil, they found four tipper vehicles that had set out for Kerala after loading sand from BC Road, around 25 km from here.


Police have identified the accused as Austin Miranda and Hasanabba, who owned the vehicles and doubled up as drivers, as well as truck owners Abdul Rehman and Harish, and Biju, who used to be riding one of the vital vehicles. Police said the motive force of one of the vital vehicles is absconding.


The seized pieces including vehicles and sand, are utterly valued at Rs 36.five lakh, and feature been passed over to the dep. of mines and geology department.
