Kanpur: Five persons, together with two Saharanpur-based liquor peddlers were arrested, and 23,040 illicit liquor pouches in 480 cartons were seized from a Hyundai automotive and a DCM container in Sachendi space of the district on overdue Friday evening.
The accused were identified as Jaiveer and Ravi Kumar, both natives of Tabar space of Saharanpur, Rajveer Singh of Mohali (Punjab), Lakhvendra and Vicky Sonkar of Panchkulan in Haryana.
Giving main points, SSP, Kanpur, Anant Deo stated that during view of Saharanpur and Uttarakhand hooch tragedies, the police had started large marketing campaign against liquor trafficking.
“During the marketing campaign, the police events of Sachendi and Anwarganj police stations while patrolling to check felony actions near SR Petrol pump in Sachendi got here across a Hyundai automotive and a DCM container. After suspecting one thing fishy, the police celebration stopped both the vehicles and performed a search,” the SSP additional stated. During checking, the occupants of Hyundai automotive identified themselves as Jaiveer and Ravi Kumar while that of DCM as Rajveer Singh, Lakhvendra and Vicky Sonkar, he added. He stated the police recovered 1,056 pouches of illicit liquor from 22 cartons, while 21,984 pouches of illicit liquor from 458 cartons were seized from the DCM container. Both the vehicles had been impounded. The accused, right through interrogation, confessed that the seized liquor used to be being ready the use of chemical substances and insecticides to increase efficiency, stated a police officer.
“We are nonetheless interrogating liquor peddlers, in particular Jaiveer and Ravi Kumar, who hail from Tabar in Saharanpur district to establish whether they have got any reference to the hooch tragedy that had claimed just about 92 lives,” the police officer stated.
The accused were booked below sections 60/63 of the Excise Act, besides sections 272/273/419/420/467/468 of IPC and sent to prison. Further investigations are underway on this regard, the police stated.
