KOLKATA: Two constables of an all-woman police patrol team deployed to prevent harassment and molestation in Kolkata was sufferers of the crimes themselves. They had been confused, molested and assaulted through a group of youths all over a patrol at Millennium Park on Strand Road on Friday night.
Police said this was the primary example of constables from the specialized team, ‘The Winners’, facing such an attack since their induction into the drive last year. Following the constables’ criticism, two men and 4 women had been arrested.
Police said, a ‘The Winners’ team was patrolling at Millennium Park shortly before the closing time, when some of the constables in plainclothes was allegedly teased through a early life. “The constable, who was on my own on the time, protested and threatened to take him to the law enforcement officials when, 5 youths, together with four women, got here to the spot and cornered her. She then referred to as for backup,” an officer of the North Port police station said.
Realizing that she was a cop, the gang tried to escape. However, every other constable, who arrived early, held some of the youths through his collar. Realizing that other law enforcement officials had been alerted, the youths bit the constables and tried to escape.
The team of constables then referred to as officers of North Port police station who shortly rushed in and arrested the six. Police said all of the suspects had been residents of Meher Ali Lane in Entally.
They had been booked underneath IPC sections 509 (molestation), 353 (attack or legal drive to deter a public servant from discharge of his accountability), 332 (voluntarily causing harm to deter public servant from his accountability) and 34 (commonplace aim).
