Pune airport: Conmen pose as defence personnel

PUNE: Fraudsters have discovered a brand new manner to make use of the shipment and customs formalities on the Pune airport to cheat citizens.

In several reported incidents, fraudsters pretending to be defence personnel lured patrons with sexy sale listings on e-commerce web sites and satisfied the unsuspecting victims to pay up in advance claiming that the pieces were caught in customs or the shipment cling of the airport. These imposters controlled to convince the patrons by flashing fake identification playing cards. In maximum circumstances, the victims were referred to as to the airport or spaces within sight.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on the Pune airport approached the police, and the airport police have now submit data boards in and across the facility to warning people.

“In the ultimate month-and-half, we have come throughout four to five such lawsuits and have instructed the victims to means the native police station,” a supply in the CISF instructed TOI. “The imposters are using fake ID playing cards to pass off as males from the military, Sashahtra Seema Bal (SSB) etc.” he said.


“People wait at or close to the airport for the dealers to come and deliver the pieces. We discovered that the victims were duped by the conmen who claimed that the pieces they (the patrons) need to acquire are held up in the shipment or the customs, and the patrons will have to pay to get the products. The victims later find out that they've been duped and means the CISF,” another official said.


In December, Kothrud resident Vivek Gaur — who wanted to buy a cellphone listed on Olx — was referred to as to the airport by a person claiming to be an SSB jawan. The man had despatched the picture of an ID card of an SSB jawan as his identification proof to Gaur on WhatsApp. The victim lost Rs 22,000. He then approached the cyber crime police at Shivajinagar.


Airport police station’s senior inspector Dilip Shinde said four boards were put in to warning people. “We have received nearly a dozen lawsuits. These fraudsters are believed to be running from Jharkhand. They put up ads on on-line platforms to promote phones and scooters and inform the victim to come to the airport. While conversing at the phone, the victims listen the sound of aeroplanes and get tricked,” he said.
