Ranchi selected as outstation venue for NSD’s Bharat Rang Mahotsav

Ranchi: THE CAPITAL CITY HAS BEEN SELECTED AS ONE OF THE OUTSTATION PARALLEL VENUES FOR THIS YEAR’S EDITION OF BHARAT RANG MAHOTSAV (BRM), the continued annual theatre pageant of the National School of Drama (NSD.

Talking to TOI, Ajay Malkani, a former NSD graduate and one of the organisers of the Ranchi tournament said: “This is the first time in the two-decade-long historical past of BRM that Jharkhand will likely be hosting one of the outstation festivals. Seven plays of the pageant will likely be staged in Ranchi at Aryabhatta Auditorium at the side of performances of local artistes. Since this theatre pageant is one-of-its-kind nationwide platform, Paika, Jhumar and other local dance types of Jharkhand will also be showcased all over the pageant.”


The pageant which started from from the first of this month will proceed till February 21 and the local leg of the event will start from February 9 and proceed for a week till February 15. Apart from Ranchi, NSD has also announced four other outstation places for the parallel BRM at Dibrugarh, Varanasi, Mysore and Rajkot. These towns may also concurrently host the continued pageant.


The 20th version of BRM has more in retailer for Jharkhand as a 16-member crew of Yuva Rangmanch, a city-based theatre workforce, has been selected from the state to perform on the major tournament in New Delhi. Malkani, who also options in ‘Pagla Ghoda’, a play written through Badal Sarkar, said: “There is only one reputable variety from Jharkhand on the BRM, which is a brilliant information for theatre fanatics of the state as they are in the end making a mark in the nationwide circles.” The plays to be screened in Ranchi-edition of BRM come with two global productions — ‘Three Sisters’, directed through Rose Schwietz of Nepal and ‘Macbeth’, directed through Israfail Shaheen of Bangladesh.


Amitesh Grover, assistant professor at NSD, New Delhi, who was right here to announce the pageant in Ranchi, said: “Over the years, BRM has introduced a crucial analysis of the theatre paperwork across the world. This version will likely be a chance for actors, directors and other theatre fanatics to have interaction with each other and know about theatre as an art form.”
