Sakhi chocolates to add zing to Valentine's Day

RANCHI: Neelam Devi, a 35-year-old mother of 1 from a far off village in Nagri block, is so excited after finding out about making sweets and baking truffles. With her training on culinary abilities wrapped, Neelam plans to sign up for the bakery unit set up through the district management in Nagri next.

Neelam is among the 14 sakhis — women attached to various Sakhi Mandals — from Nagri and who completed their weeklong training in making sweets and baking truffles below an initiative through the district management and the Jharkhand IAS Officers’ Wives Association (JIASOWA). The merchandise they make right through the educational shall be despatched to the district collectorate on Thursday, February 14 to be sold at Ranchi’s first self-help group-run bakery.

“I joined an area Sakhi Mandal in 2016 and because then, I have been operating a tea stall in Nagri. When I used to be told that I will be able to be receiving training to bake truffles, it was once nearly an inconceivable activity and seemed so much out of my achieve. After completing the educational where I learnt to bake cookies and truffles, I feel adore it isn’t as difficult as I imagined it to be,” said Neelam.

Her teacher, Harmeet Kaur who runs ‘ChocoIndulge’ — a Mumbai-based confectionery line, agrees. She said even though first of all it was once a problem, the ladies ultimately confirmed great finding out skills.

“The cultural barrier on day one was once a problem for us. They come from such far off spaces that they've never noticed or even heard of such things as chocolate chips or whipped cream. Once we went past that, the remaining has been easy to this point. After the preliminary training, those women successfully baked their first batch of cookies from a recipe on the 3rd day itself. They learnt to bake truffles and make sweets after that. It is the sort of proud second for me as first of all, it gave the look of it's going to be a difficult journey as a trainer. But they all have proved to be great scholars,” Kaur said. She was once accompanied through yet one more teacher who skilled the ladies in Nagri block place of work till February 12 and helped them whip up and dispatch their first order for Valentine’s Day.

The district management has helped those 14 women get financial institution loans for putting in place a whole bakery unit. “The preliminary set up is functional at Nagri block place of work from where those women will bake merchandise and promote it available in the market. It could be shifted to their village’s panchayat place of work in Jajpur after the educational is done,” Ranchi DC Rai Mahimapat Ray said.
