Six villages observe bandh to protest mining

RAJKOT: Six villages in Mahua and Talaja talukas of Bhavnagar district noticed a bandh for the second one day on Friday to protest towards limestone mining by means of a non-public cement company close to Bambhor village.

A month ago, ugly clashes had broken out between protesting farmers and the police officers once they had attempted to go into the mining site. Police had resorted to heavy lathicharge and arrested round 90 farmers. As a part of the protest, farmers did not even send their wards to varsities.

Recently, the Gujarat High Court has ordered the involved magistrate to begin legal proceeding within the atrocity dedicated by means of police on farmers or lodged an FIR to research the allegations of excesses.


Farmers are adversarial to limestone mining on the grounds that their fields would be rendered non-fertile. They stated the water of their wells has also turned saline as the corporate digs land 300 foot to 400 foot deep to extract limestone.


Bharat Bhil, a neighborhood farmer leader, stated, “Despite our steady protests, mining job continues within the house. We had despatched proposed that the government officers, elected representatives of our house and corporate officers should grasp a gathering with us to grasp our problem. However, they didn’t pay heed.”


District collector Hasmukh Patel stated, “I've but to receive the reproduction of order however as according to my wisdom National Green Tribunal (NGT) has rejected the petition of farmers. We can’t prevent mining when the corporate has received vital permission from state and central government and there is not any stay by means of the courtroom.”
