Surat Municipal Corporation seals more textile godowns for causing traffic congestion

The textile goods transporters in town’s Bhatena had knocked the doorways of Gujarat High Court in opposition to the action by the SMC for sealing 58 delivery godowns. The transporters submitted to the prime court that they weren't in opposition to the SMC’s action, but want the entire different delivery godowns be additionally sealed and shifted to the outskirts of town.

The SMC’s Limbayat zone had earlier sealed about 58 godowns in Bhatena’s Umarpada space, which can be situated along BRTS canal highway. The godowns had been sealed as a result of heavy traffic problems throughout peak hours.

On Thursday, the SMC’s Limbayat zone officials sealed 26 delivery godowns at Bharat Nagar in Anjana. All the delivery godowns had been being operated from rented premises and the civic body have been giving the house owners ultimatum for the final four years to shift the godowns out of town.

Bhairav Desai, Limbayat Zone executive engineer, instructed TOI, “The transporters had been requested to shift their godowns out of town four years in the past. Following orders, we needed to seal 26 godowns at Bharatnagar. More textile godowns usually are sealed in the coming days. The godowns are the most important bottlenecks for the growing traffic problems in areas like Bhatena, Umarwada and Anjana.”

Pavan Sharma, a textile godown owner at Bhatena, mentioned, “We are pleased with the action taken by the SMC to seal delivery godowns in different portions of town. We are able to shift out of town limits, but the entire godowns should be shifted at one pass”.
