Thane police bust car-lifters' syndicate

THANE: A stolen pick-up vehicles’s Global Positioning System (GPS) led the city police to bust a pan-India syndicate of car-lifters and detected as many as 105 cases of car-theft and seized nearly 80 four-wheelers price Rs three.40 crore.

Perhaps, that is the first such case in the state wherein the sort of giant racket has been busted in the recent previous. The gang ran a very systematic racket and operated in quite a lot of states Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Rajastan and the Nagaland from the north-east area and working the racket for just about seven years, the police mentioned.

The police mentioned that the mastermind of the racket--Sandeep Lagu from Mumbai roped in different accused Sadique Mulla, Altaf Gokak, each from Belgaum, Karnataka, Vinit Madhiwal, resident of Mumbai, Mangilal Jhakad, Nagore, Rajastan, Ramprasad Inania, of Nagore, Rajastan, Javed aka Bablu Mukhtar Khan, Altaf Qureshi, and Mohmmad Yusuf Nayeem Khan, from Pratapgadh, Uttar Pradesh, mentioned Madhukar Pandey, the joint commissioner of police.

Pandey added throughout their probe they may get main points of a complete of 176 four-wheeler thefts and their technical main points and thus far they've unearthed a complete of 105 robbery cases and recovered a complete of 80 automobiles from the arrested accused.

DS Swamy, the deputy commissioner of police (zone-1) mentioned that the police first gained a criticism in December 2018 of the robbery of a Mahindra Bolero Pick up from the city’s Rabodi space. During the investigations, the police traced the jeep with the assistance of GPS to a godwon in Pune and seized it.

“The guy who bought the car used to be wondered who led the police to trace the chain of the accused. They used to get the demand of the four-wheeler accordingly the accused used to click the pics, after they get the clearance from the patron, they would then rob the vehicles,” Swamy mentioned.

After stealing the car they took it to a godown in Pune, later they received a pretend Registration Certificate (RC) ebook for the same from Nagaland and later modified the engine and chasis and sold it in Belgaum of Karnataka and Rajastan, Swamy added.

The accused Lagu came in contact with the other accused in a robbery case registered in 2014 and roped in others.

The police had formed a complete of 5 groups to track the gang individuals and in any case zeroed on them.


The accused had special liking and insist for Bolero pickup vehicles as they a complete of 69 Mahindra Pickup vehicles, 08 Mahindra Bolero SLX, one each Verna, Honda City, and Breeza used to be seized. These automobiles have been seized from Rajastan, Karnataka, Pune and Mumbai, mentioned Mahesh Jadhav, the investigation officer.


They had been being kept in the godown at Pune and later dispatched after changes to the other destinations on the market.


Out of 105 cases robbery detected, 32 are from Thane town, 14 each from Navi Mumbai and Mumbai town, 12 from Palghar, eight from Raigad, 6 each from Thane and Pune Rural, 4 each from Pune town, and Gujrat, three from PimpriChinchwad and one each from Nashik City and Ahmednagar the officer mentioned.
