Ranchi: Award winning actor, theatre artist and playwright Arun Mukherjee on Thursday stated theatre has been the voice of society over the years and youngsters making an attempt to go into the arena of theatre need to perceive the problem neatly.
Interacting with theatre enthusiasts from town right through the National School of Drama’s ongoing Bharat Rang Mahotsav festival, the 82-year-old thespian stated, “Great theatre ft the line between an entertainment source and a change-making instrument. It reflects society and youngsters making an attempt to go into the arena of theatre need to remember that over the years that theatre has borne the weight of its instances.”
Mukherjee used to be speaking on the ‘Living Legends’ segment of the festival at Aryabhatta Auditorium. Replying to a query from an actor from Ranchi, Vinamra Kumar, who is also an engineering stage holder, Mukherjee stated: “Back in our days, we didn’t have as many restrictions as this technology has. I have been concerned with theatre since my faculty days and I earned my living as a decrease divisional clerk. I had one interest — to direct performs that stood out and that helped me stand out.”
Mukherjee is the founding father of Kolkata-based theatre crew Chetana, which continues to stage performs across the nation and is understood for its performs like ‘Morich Sombad’ and ‘Jagannath’, each severely acclaimed for their social relevance and because the voice of the oppressed sections of society. Rothin Chatterjee, who has been lively in the theatre circles of Ranchi because the past few many years, also shared his reviews as a member of the target market. “I used to be in Ranchi when Arun da’s (Mukherjee’s) play Morich Sombad used to be staged in Ranchi’s Mecon in 1977. It is a smart honour to interact with him and feature him in Ranchi among us again.”
