Traffic resumes on Vikramshila Setu

BHAGALPUR: The district administration has lifted the blanket ban on movement of commercial cars above 20 tonne load or trucks with six wheels or more on Vikramshila Setu.

Commercial cars carrying not up to 45 tonne (above 14 wheels), 30 tonne (14 wheels), 25 tonne (10 wheels) and 16 tonne (six wheels), but even so mild commercial cars had been allowed by the district administration to ply at the bridge from Thursday.

A joint order on this regard has been issued by the Bhagalpur district Justice of the Peace Pranav Kumar, Bhagalpur SSP Ashish Bharti and Naugachia SP Nidhi Rani. The directives had been issued after the Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam (BRPNN) tested the load-bearing capacity of the Setu and gave a nod to allow commercial cars with specific rather a lot and wheel bases.


The order, then again, also stated that the distance between two transferring commercial cars must be minimal 20 meters in case of visitors snarl but even so averting static load at the bridge for load hours in case of visitors jam.


Earlier, the district administration in Bhagalpur apprehending damage to Vikramshila Setu after the sinking of a pillar of Kursela bridge on Kosi had limited the movement of heavy commercial cars from February 2 in an effort to save the bridge from damage due to overloaded trucks and visitors snarls causing massive static load.


Vikarmshila Setu and Kursela bridge (throughout river Kosi) on NH-31 are under monumental vehicular drive due to closure of bridge at the Ganga at Farraka barrage since December 7 closing.
