Two conmen who posed as cops, extorted Rs 1.66 lakh, arrested

VADODARA: Two conmen, who posed as law enforcement officials and extorted Rs 1.66 lakh from an aged sufferer threatening that he would be implicated in a rape case, have been arrested through Sama police.
According to police resources, the conmen had targeted Yogesh Shah, a resident of Sama-Savli Road, who was once returning from Nimeta gardens on Ajwa Road on February four.

When Shah was once returning from the Nimeta gardens, a girl had asked for a boost on his two-wheeler. After the duo reached a definite distance, the sufferer was once stopped through a gang of 4 accused who have been travelling in an auto rickshaw.

The fake law enforcement officials then threatened the complainant that he would be implicated in a case for raping the girl, who was once driving pillion at the two-wheeler. The panicked sufferer gave the conmen Rs 1.66 lakh including money from his house and money that he had withdrawn the usage of his ATM card, police resources said.

Three days later, the conmen again contacted the sufferer and demanded more money from him. The accused had sought the money from the sufferer on Thursday night.

When two of the accused got here to extort money from the sufferer, they have been nabbed through Sama police. The two accused who've been arrested through Sama police come with Salim Sheikh, 58, a resident of Sangam quarters close to Ektanagar on Ajwa Road and Dawood Ghanchi, a resident of Khumbharwalu faliyo in Tarsali.


The duo have been arrested under segment 388 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for extortion through threat of accusation of an offence and sections 171 and 120 (B) of the IPC for wearing garb utilized by public servant and prison conspiracy.


Cops also are in search of three other accused including Thakor Patel, a resident of Gorwa village, Anil Rana, a resident of Fatehgunj and the unidentified woman, who's nearly 35 years of age.


The police officers are investigating whether the crowd was once inquisitive about other such crimes the place conmen dupe victims on one or another pretext and extort money from them.
