Campus ambassadors, ELCs to create awareness on polling

Mangaluru: Campus ambassadors appointed via the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) committee of Dakshina Kannada have commenced activities to extend the poll proportion in the district.

The committee has appointed 80 campus ambassadors in 40 first grade schools of the district, who will paintings to extend the balloting proportion among young citizens. A coaching programme for campus ambassadors has already been held.


SVEEP committee chairman and Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat CEO R Selvamani mentioned the ones scholars, who have been decided on as campus ambassadors, can be operating for one instructional 12 months. “Campus ambassadors have already commenced more than a few activities and they're going to proceed their awareness programmes even after the Lok Sabha election. They will grasp programmes during National Voters’ Day and behavior more than a few activities to create awareness on the significance of balloting right,” Selvamani mentioned.


“Students are roped in to create awareness on balloting right as their role is very important in any election. Campus ambassadors will be in contact with their classmates, teachers and body of workers of the schools. They will search details about the selection of citizens of their homes and demand that they exercise their franchise with out fail. Similarly, campus ambassadors will even lend a hand citizens to get id playing cards and to check their names in the citizens checklist, and take projects so as to add their names or insert corrections in it. They will even coordinate with NCC cadets and NSS volunteers to inspire citizens to exercise their franchise compulsorily,” he mentioned.


This is in addition to electoral literacy clubs (ELC) set up in PU schools, first grade schools, scientific schools and polytechnics to extend the balloting proportion. While ELCs were opened in 118 first grade schools and 203 PU schools, 560 prime faculties even have such clubs in the district.
