Deadlock continues in Congress over four seats

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A consensus method to select the candidates in the remaining four seats remains to be eluding in Congress because the KPCC has determined to delay the announcement of the final checklist to Monday.

Though seat sharing between the groups is the main reason why at the back of the delay, the KPCC denies this type of problems. “It is baseless that the group equations are delaying the announcement. We wish to have more discussions and hence we now have called Oommen Chandy to New Delhi. We will sit down together and finalize the checklist,” said KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran.


There are studies that Wayanad seat is the main bottleneck as Chandy wants his trusted lieutenant T Siddique to be fielded here, which isn't acceptable for the ‘I’ crew as it's their sitting seat. The ‘I’ crew nominee for Wayanad is Okay P Abdul Majeed. Since there is not any consensus among the groups, A Okay Antony has instructed the name of Malappuram DCC president V V Prakash for the seat.


Adoor Prakash and Shanimol Usman are the entrance runners for Attingal and Alappuzha. Prakash is being thought to be in Alappuzha since he belongs to Ezhava group and the Congress feels that he has higher probability here than Shanimol. However, Shanimol isn't able to contest from Attingal.


In Vadakara, the nominee of the KPCC leader is Vidya Balakrishnan however the leaders are pushing for a robust candidate in opposition to P Jayarajan. Ramesh Chennithala instructed Siddique’s name in Vadakara, but Chandy didn't settle for it. With Shanimol additionally pitching for Wayanad, the leaders are waiting for Chandy to achieve Delhi to adapt a consensus.
