MUMBAI: An ENT specialist from Powai has develop into the latest victim of an insurance fraud when faux telecallers made her switch cash to an account, claiming that her insurance policy would lapse if she waited for the top class to be deducted thru electronic clearing carrier (ECS). The 62-year-old lady, who asked anonymity, used to be duped of Rs 1.35 lakh on March 6 after the telecaller gave all details of her policy which she had supplied to the corporate insurance company.
She got calls from two people-Anita Kothari and Rehan-who mentioned they have been executives of Max Life Insurance and advised her that top class fee date used to be on Tuesday. "The fraudsters said the policy would lapse as payment through ECS takes time," the doctor advised TOI.
She used to be at her medical institution when she got the faux calls between midday and 4pm. "A probe is on to know if customer data was leaked from the insurance firm that helped the fraudsters dupe people," mentioned an officer. The victim learnt she used to be duped as the insurance company mentioned they by no means name anyone for fee. Senior inspector of Powai police station, Anil Pophale, mentioned: "People must realise that such firms never call customers for any details."
