THANE: Nearly 9 years after a physician suffered grievous injuries in a road accident involving a trailer in Navi Mumbai, the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) ordered a reimbursement of Rs 12.three lakh.
Dr Gulrez Mansuri instructed the tribunal that he was hooked up to a health center as regional scientific officer in Mumbai. He instructed the tribunal that on November 12, 2009, around 2.30 am, he was returning house after visiting Lonavla, when near Uran phata, a trailer rammed into his motorcycle on Panvel-Sion road.
The physician won serious injuries and was instructed entire mattress rest for 6 months and spent over Rs four lakh on medicines, hospitalisation after which he lodged a claim. The trailer's insurer opposed the claim, pronouncing he was driving the motorcycle rashly. But tribunal rejected the insurer's claim and awarded the physician reimbursement of Rs 12.three lakh as he took remedy at other hospitals.
