THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In order to encourage children develop an passion in science and medical analysis, the State Institute of Educational Technology (SIET) is establishing a chain of hands-on interaction-cum-training programmes for college students in association with various universities.
Latest a number of the set of programmes organised by way of SIET is the software trying out and laboratory experiments at the department of bio-informatics, University of Kerala. As many as 40 Class IX students from government and aided faculties in Thiruvananthapuram participated at the two-day residential programme, which concluded on Kariavattom campus here on Wednesday.
"We need to give scientific exposure to children for fuelling their inquisitiveness. I hope we were able to give them a sweet dose of bio-informatics for encouraging curiosity in experiments and research," said Achuthsankar S Nair, head of the dept, bio-informatics.
SIET government said the programme aims to attract students in opposition to analysis in pure science and provides them exposure to interdisciplinary spaces and new applied sciences. The programme, which began this yr, would be persevered. As many as 40 students were given a three-day residential practising in artificial intelligence (AI), internet of items (IoT), nano generation and a two-day practising in bio-informatics at the Kerala School of Mathematics, in association with the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology & Environment, Central university of Kerala, Cusat and the Kerala University. The practising programmes in AI, IoT and Nanotechnology had been held in Kozhikode and Ernakulam, respectively.
The students had been decided on from a number of the winners in the 'Shastra Jalakam' on-line talent-hunt take a look at organised by way of the SIET. A batch of 150 students decided on beneath the programme had been also provided with alternatives for interacting with medical group in premier analysis institutions inside of and out of doors the state, together with IITs.
"In view of the encouragement we received from the students as well as the research institutes, the SIET would be organizing an advanced programme next year for students who were part of this year's programme. Also, we would be providing basic training and exposure to a fresh batch of students next year. Apart from opening the windows of scientific experiments and research, we hope these kind of programmes would help students to think about careers other than engineering and medicine," said SIET director B Aburaj.
