Elephant calf trapped in Erode canal reunited with mother

Coimbatore: An elephant calf aged just seven months was once trapped in the main canal of Varattupallam dam, the place it came with the mother elephant to drink water, at 6.30am on Sunday.
On seeing the calf helpless, farmers alerted Anthiyur wooded area vary officer P Balakrishnan, who reached the spot at the side of his group. When they attempted to rescue the calf, the mother elephant chased them away.

Following this, foresters chased away the mother elephant by means of bursting firecrackers and brought an earth mover to chop a pathway to assist the calf pop out of the canal.


As quickly because it came out of the canal, the calf reunited with its mom, which was once waiting at the wooded area boundary.
