From humble beginnings to a minister

Hubballi: Channabasappa Satyappa Shivalli, 57, tasted good fortune and failure in equal measure. Interestingly, he began his career as president of Dr Rajkumar Abhimani Balaga. Hailing from a deficient family of four brothers and 3 sisters in Yaraguppi village, Shivalli studied at SK Arts College in Hubballi.
However, poverty didn't permit him to finish his BA. Instead, it driven him into activism. He floated Dr Raj Abhimani Balaga in his village in 1985. His works used to be spotted by way of by way of former chief minister S Bangarappa, who motivated him to contest the 1994 assembly election as Karnataka Congress Party (KCP) candidate. But he lost the election with a margin of over 19,000 votes.

By 1999, KCP merged with Congress. Shivalli used to be identified as a follower of Bangarappa. After his defeat, Congress shied clear of issuing him a price ticket in the 1999 election. Shivalli contested as an independent and gained with a margin of over 11,000 votes. He later joined the Congress.

Though Bangarappa moved to the SP, BJP and even floated every other regional birthday party, Shivalli remained a staunch Congressman. He didn't lose hope even after shedding the 2003 and 2008 assembly elections. His consistent efforts and hook up with the folks in his constituency ensured he gained in 2013 and 2018.

A Kuruba, he used to be hopeful of a berth in former chief minister Siddaramaiah’s cupboard. But it didn't occur. However, he used to be rewarded with the put up of parliamentary secretary to the CM in 2013. His victory in the 2018 assembly election, noticed him get a ministerial berth.

He is survived by way of spouse Kusuma and daughters Deepa, Roopa and son Amarshiva

Shivalli used to be inducted as minister on December 22, 2018. He used to be minister for exactly 3 months.


Food poisoning drama


Shivalli used to be admitted to KIMS early on February four after he suffered from meals poisoning. He and his gunman had been the only one to fall unwell after consuming upma.


In 2002, Shivalli had alleged that his political competitors had paid Rs five lakh to his aide to poison him. But his alleged rival who he used to be hinting at denied the allegations and threatened legal motion. In his police criticism, Shivalli by no means mentioned anyone.
