India working on expeditious extradition of Nirav Modi from UK: MEA

NEW DELHI: Days after his arrest in London, India on Friday said it was working towards expeditious extradition of Nirav Modi, the principle accused within the $2 billion PNB scam case.

Spokesperson within the external affairs ministry Raveesh Kumar additionally said that there was no delay in his arrest and that motion was taken on of completion of positive processes.

"There was no delay which can be attributed to our side. There were certain processes which had to be completed, and that is how he was arrested," he said at a media briefing.

"Government of India is committed to expeditious extradition of Nirav Modi," he added.

Nirav Modi was arrested by British government in London on March 19.

Kumar said the United Kingdom's Crown Prosecution Service knowledgeable India on March 18 that a senior district judge within the Westminster Magistrates' courtroom
issued a warrant in opposition to Nirav Modi.


The arrest warrant in opposition to the businessman was issued in response to a request by the Enforcement Directorate for his extradition in a money laundering case.


On Wednesday, a courtroom in the United Kingdom remanded him in custody till March 29.


Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi are the principle accused within the PNB scam they usually both left India prior to the details of the fraud came to mild in January 2018.
