Irked by thefts & vendors, KT Nagar residents want to shut gate on others

Nagpur: Two groups of KT Nagar residents close to Friends Colony have locked horns over erection of 4 gates to keep an eye on get entry to for residents or guests to pass via.
A majority of residents, underneath the banner of KT Nagar Residents Owners’ Welfare Association, cited security reasons like theft that were reported up to now and installed the gates, whilst the opposite team is opposing the transfer calling it unlawful.

The association erected gates on all 4 sides of ‘A’ wing of the colony which has round 109 tenements. “The need for putting in the gates was once felt due to steady nuisance of distributors, belongings agents who would talk over with the area and also stray livestock. To keep an eye on those issues, iron gates were put up on all 4 entry-exit points of ‘A’ wing in 2015-16. Residents had contributed for putting up of gates,” stated association contributors.

Barring one gate on west side which was once stored closed at all times, the three other gates were open right through the day and at night time only one gate which was once manned via a safety guard was once stored open.

But during the last couple of months the incidents of handbag snatching, thefts, trespassers visiting the colony to make use of the lawn, bikers dashing and doing stunts disturbed the peace of the locality and was once endangering the safety and security of the residents, the association contributors said.

A woman from Mankapur who was once practicing riding drove into two parked cars of the residents causing extensive injury to them. A biker snatched the handbag from any other woman resident as she got here out of her area. These incidents compelled the residents to take a decision of remaining two gates and have handiest two gates for entry and exit at day time also. Guards were also employed to guy the gates.

The transfer, then again, irked many residents who then approached municipal commissioner Abhijit Bangar.

In the previous, the assistant municipal commissioner from Mangalwari zone had issued understand and termed the erection of gates as unlawful and asked to raze it within 3 days, the dissenting residents informed Bangar.


Even assistant municipal commissioner of Dharampeth zone Mahesh Moroney, who visited the locality, termed the transfer of installing gates unlawful.


“As in line with the rules, the societies have to take permission from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation to put in gates,” Moroney stated. As in line with norms, even at nights when gates are closed for security reasons, there must be a person present there.


Moroney steered that each the groups to stay all 4 gates open right through from morning to 10pm. He, then again, stated the zone will submit the spot inspection report to Bangar who will then come to a decision whether to raze the gates or now not.
