'Lack of management' led to poor Swachh rank

MOHALI: Mohali deputy commissioner (DC) Gurpreet Kaur Sapra was once of the view that poor control, lack of temperament and lackadaisical perspective have been the explanations in the back of Mohali's poor rating in Swachh Survekshan-2019. The rating went down from 109 in 2018 to 153 this year.

Sapra also sought a detailed motion report from municipal company (MC) declaring the preparations that have been undertaken for the Swachh Survekshan and cite the cause of the poor efficiency. She has also sought answers from seven municipal councils of Kharar, Lalru, Derabassi, Zirakpur, Nayagaon, Banur and Kurali.

Sapra said, "It is disheartening to see Mohali securing such a poor ranking in Swachh Survekshan-2019. Despite the fact that corporation and councils having ample funds, manpower and all departments rendering support, Mohali still had a dismal show. Now we need to understand what exactly went wrong. So, I have asked for detailed report from corporation as well as all the seven councils citing reasons of failures. These reports will be studied and summarized to find out solutions so that next year we may feature in at least top 20 positions. Mostly, poor management and lack of temperament and will to work on the part of MC officials led us down."

Sapra added that regardless of governmental agencies like Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Company (PMIDC) and Swachh Mission Urban offering strengthen to the company and councils in Mohali, the rank still went down. "The performance was more poor this year as compared to earlier two years," said Sapra.

As in keeping with Swachh Mission Act, DC is entitled to hold meetings to steer and chalkout plans with the civic bodies of the district so that the district gets just right place in Swachh Survekshan via pleasurable all parameters.

As of consolation, Sapra added that Kharar in Mohali district has bagged absolute best citizen feedback within the Swachh Survekshan 2019 results declared via the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India. She said other municipal councils will have to mirror the stairs adopted via Kharar council to influence residents for sending feedback.

The Mohali MC deliberate to get radio promos aired at local FM channel final year, however this failed as the idea that did not get clearance from local bodies department.
