LS polls: All eyes on Muddahanumegowda

BENGALURU: Disregarding pleas from senior Congress leaders, SP Muddahanumegowda, the birthday celebration’s sitting MP, is ready to go into the fray from Tumakuru seat as an independent. Although he introduced on Saturday that he's going to document his nomination as a Congress candidate, Muddahanumegowda is expected to to contest as an independent, since the Congress cannot give him a B shape owing to its pact with the JD(S). The B shape is had to contest on the birthday celebration’s image.

As per the alliance deal, the Congress ceded Tumakuru to the JD(S) and birthday celebration supremo HD Deve Gowda introduced he's going to contest from the constituency. Gowda is scheduled to document his papers between 2.15pm and 3.15pm. Muddahanumegowda may even document his papers on Monday.

On Sunday, Muddahanumegowda held a chain of meetings with supporters to elicit their opinion, even as a number of senior Congress leaders tried to steer him towards contesting. Deputy chief minister G Parameshwara, who took inventory of the political scenario, expressed self belief that Muddahanumegowda will abide by the birthday celebration’s diktat.

“It is quite herbal that he (Muddahanumegowda) is dissatisfied,” Parameshwara told newshounds. “I understand his ache. He was once very active within the Lok Sabha. I’m certain the Congress will recognise his services and products and reward him suitably.”

However, hearsay suggests Parameshwara is not directly supporting Muddahanumegowda’s revolt as the he too is dissatisfied with the prime command’s determination to cede the seat to the JD(S). “He (Parameshwara) thinks Siddaramaiah is behind the verdict,” a source within the Tumakuru Congress said. “Siddaramaiah sacrificed Tumakuru to save lots of Mysuru from going to the JD(S).”

In Mysuru, Siddaramaiah said Muddahanumegowda will toe the birthday celebration line and not contest the election. Meanwhile, former Congress MLA KN Rajanna introduced that he's going to also contest the election as an independent making issues worse for both Congress and the JD(S).
