CHENNAI: DMK president M K Stalin on Sunday night introduced the names of its applicants in 20 Lok Sabha constituencies in Tamil Nadu the place the birthday celebration is contesting.
Out of the total 20 applicants, 13 are first time contestants in the Lok Sabha elections. They are Kanimozhi who has is Rajya Sabha member.
Of the 20 applicants, 18 are graduates, medical doctors, engineers, legal professionals and commerce graduates.
The list additionally is composed of second technology applicants. The constituencies wherein second technology applicants are contesting include North Chennai (Dr Kalanidhi Veerasamy, (son of former minister Arcot Veerasamy), Central Chennai ( Dayanidhi Maran, son of late Union minister Murasoli Maran), South Chennai (Tamilachi Thangapandian, daughter of former minister Thangapandian) Vellore (Kadhir Anand, son of DMK treasurer S Duraimurugan), Kallakurichi (Gautama Sigamani, son of former DMK minister K Ponmudi, and Tuticorin (Kanimozhi, daughter of late DMK chief M Karunanidhi.)
The youngest among the applicants is Dhanush M Kumar (42) contesting from Tenkasi reserved constituency and the oldest is former Union minister T R Baalu, 78, contesting from Sriperumbudur constituency.
Former Union surroundings and highways minister Baalu was elected from South Chennai in 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2004 Lok Sabha elections and from Sriperumbudur in 2009. In the 2014 elections, he misplaced from Sriperumbudur. He was a former Rajya Sabha member between 1986 and 1992.
Former Union minister S S Palanimanickam is re-contesting from Thanjavur constituency. For Palanimanickam, Thanjavur constituency has been a bellwether constituency since 1996 Lok Sabha elections. He had received steadily however was refused price tag in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and DMK misplaced this constituency.
Former Union minister A Raja, accused in the 2G case however acquitted via a distinct court two years ago, is again in the race in the Nilgiris constituency.
